Effective 13 October 2026
DIYLens is where people learn to fix things, share how they did it, find help, and buy and sell. We want it to be safe, useful and kind for everyone.
These Community Guidelines apply to everyone and everything on DIYLens — DIYs, photo posts, stories, comments, sounds, messages, profiles, Marketplace products (physical, digital and gigs), jobs and promoted posts. They tell you what's allowed and what isn't.
If you're ever unsure, remember: be kind, be honest, and keep people safe.
Our rules at a glance
- Safety and civility: violent and criminal behaviour, hate speech, violent and hateful groups, child safety, adult sexual exploitation, human trafficking, harassment and bullying.

- DIY and repair safety: show the safety steps, no dangerous shortcuts, health, money and legal advice.

- Marketplace, gigs, jobs and paid promotion: regulated and prohibited goods, honest listings, real jobs and gigs, scams and fraud, paid promotion.
- Privacy and security: personal information, platform security.
Safety and civility
- Violent and criminal behaviour: We don't allow threats, encouraging or glorifying violence, promoting crime, or instructions on how to hurt people.
- Hate speech: We don't allow content that attacks people because of their ethnicity, tribe, religion, nationality, sex, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age or health.
- Violent and hateful groups: We don't allow people or groups that promote violence or hate, or content that supports or recruits for them.
- Child safety: We don't allow any content that sexualises, exploits or endangers anyone under 18. We report child sexual abuse material to law enforcement.
- Adult sexual exploitation: We don't allow content that shows, promotes or facilitates sexual abuse or exploitation of adults, including sharing intimate images without consent.
- Human trafficking: We don't allow content that promotes or facilitates trafficking, smuggling or forced labour — including fake job or travel offers.
- Harassment and bullying: We don't allow insulting, degrading or threatening people, sharing someone's private information to harass them (doxxing), or coordinating attacks on someone.
Mental and behavioural health
- Suicide and self-harm: We don't allow content that shows, promotes or gives instructions for suicide or self-harm. If you're struggling, please reach out to someone you trust or a local helpline.
- Eating and body image: We don't allow promoting disordered eating, dangerous weight loss or harmful body comparisons.
- Dangerous challenges: We don't allow stunts, dares or challenges that could seriously hurt the person doing them or anyone copying them.
DIY and repair safety
DIYLens is about fixing things yourself — safely. Repair content must not put people at risk.
- Show the safety steps: When a fix involves electricity, gas, heights, car lifts, sharp tools or chemicals, show or say the safety steps — switch off the power, close the gas, wear protection — and when to call a professional.
- No dangerous shortcuts: We don't allow content that encourages bypassing safety devices, tampering with meters, illegal connections, or mixing dangerous chemicals.
- Health, money and legal advice: Share experience, not guarantees. Don't present yourself as a doctor, lawyer or financial adviser if you aren't one, and don't promise cures, returns or legal outcomes.
Sensitive and mature themes
- Nudity and sexual content: We don't allow nudity, sexual activity, sexual services, or sexually suggestive content involving anyone under 18.
- Shocking and graphic content: We don't allow extremely graphic, gory or disturbing content, such as serious injuries or accident scenes shown to shock.
- Animal abuse: We don't allow content that shows or promotes cruelty to animals, including animal fights.
Integrity and authenticity
- Harmful misinformation: We don't allow false information that could cause real harm — about health, safety, emergencies or how to stay safe during a repair.
- Elections and civic processes: We don't allow content that misleads people about how, when or where to vote, or that interferes with elections.
- Edited and AI-generated content: Label realistic AI-generated or heavily edited content using the AI label when you post. We don't allow AI content that misleads people about real events or harms real people.
- Your own work: Post content you made or have the rights to use. We don't allow reposting other people's DIYs as your own, or using music, images or brands without permission.
- Fake engagement and impersonation: We don't allow fake accounts, pretending to be someone else, buying or selling followers, likes or views, or tricking the recommendation system.
Marketplace, gigs, jobs and paid promotion
Buyers and sellers agree price and payment directly in Messages, or the seller's own website. DIYLens doesn't take or hold payments between buyers and sellers, so honesty matters.
- Regulated and prohibited goods: We don't allow selling or promoting weapons, drugs, prescription medicines, tobacco and vapes, counterfeits, stolen goods, protected wildlife, or anything illegal in Nigeria. See the Advertising Policy for the full list.
- Honest listings: Show the real item, its condition and its price. Don't use other people's photos or bait-and-switch.
- Real jobs and gigs: Job and gig posts must be real. Never ask people to pay to get a job.
- Scams and fraud: We don't allow scams, fake giveaways, 'money doubling', investment schemes promising returns, or asking for card PINs, OTPs or bank logins.
- Paid promotion: If you're paid to promote something, say so. Posts promoted with DIYLens Promote must follow the Advertising Policy.
Privacy and security
- Personal information: Don't share other people's phone numbers, addresses, ID documents, bank details or private photos without their permission.
- Platform security: Don't hack, scrape, spread malware, phish, or try to break into accounts or DIYLens systems.
Enforcement
Here's how we keep DIYLens safe:
Anyone can share on DIYLens, but when content breaks these rules we remove it.
Breaking the rules can add a strike to your account. Repeated or serious violations can limit features like posting, messaging, selling or Promote.
We suspend accounts for severe violations — such as child safety, scams or violent threats — or for repeated violations.
Report posts, DIYs, comments, sounds, messages and accounts; block people; turn off comments; make your account private; and choose who sees your stories.
Reporting and appeals
Tap the ••• menu or press and hold on a post, DIY, comment, sound or message and choose Report. Reports are reviewed by our team, and we never tell people who reported them. You can check your account's standing in Help → Account status. If you think we got a decision wrong, contact support and ask us to look again.
For copyright and trademark complaints see the Intellectual Property Policy. In an emergency, contact the police or emergency services first.
